Skaters Invited to Party on Ice
Work to install a new £700,000 ice pad at the Link Centre will begin early next month.
Skaters will be able to have their final skate on the current ice pad on Sunday June 2nd when a Sub Zero Foam Party will be held between 6pm and 8pm.
Following the event the ice rink will be closed to the public until Monday, August 19th.
The process of creating a new ice pad will take several weeks and involves water being frozen in stages until the ice reaches an optimum thickness of 40mm.
Once fully operational, the new plant equipment will maintain the ice’s temperature at -11 C.
Cllr Keith Williams, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Strategic Transport and Leisure, said: “The ice plant is coming to the end of its life and, as a result, this work is essential.”
“We have tried to keep disruption to a minimum by scheduling the work during the traditionally quieter summer period and we are looking forward to having a fantastic new ice surface when it reopens in August.”
There are limited tickets available for the Sub Zero Foam party. For more information and to book tickets call the Link Centre on 01793 445566.
