Emma Georgiou, of Emma Georgiou Coaching, has had a busy February!
As February comes to an end and Valentine’s Day has been and gone, February is known as the month of love – or historically a month of ‘new beginnings’. It’s also the 3rd month of winter and 2024 is a Leap Year so February has an extra day.
Today we’re talking to Emma Georgiou, Executive Coach, Consultant and Trainer who works with individuals and organisations to help them build resilience, improve performance, and create happier, more cohesive teams.
Emma is based in Banbury, Oxfordshire, but frequently travels across the country to support her clients.
What do you love about running your own business or your role?
What initially led me to work for myself was flexibility – flexibility to work when I wanted around my hobbies and interests. This flexibility came into its own when I had my daughter, as I was able to juggle work around family commitments.
I also really enjoy being able to pick and choose who I work with and what projects I take on.
What do you love about your business community/sector/or where you live?
The downside of running your own business and being the only one within the company is that it can get lonely at times. This was something that I wasn’t prepared for. Early last year, I decided to try some networking events, and instantly found it to be a really positive experience. It was great to meet other people who were in a similar situation to me, plus it also helped me to learn more about my local community and the businesses within it. Through networking, I have made many friends and found collaboration partners. I enjoyed the networking experience so much that now I am a sponsor of the Oxford Business Buzz event.
Are there any key moments or events within your business that you’d like to share during February?
I spoke at the PM Society Careers Event on 21st February. The event, which took place at the Royal Society of Medicine, was an incredible opportunity for anyone interested in exploring roles within the healthcare and pharmaceutical communications industry. I hosted the interactive session - ‘What role is right for you?'
Anything else you’d like to say?
I really like February, it feels like the proper start of the year, when everything starts to flow properly again after Christmas. January is all about making resolutions and setting the tone for the year and what we want to achieve. Whereas by February, some of us will have tried and failed at their resolutions (which is why I don’t like to set them for the new year), and will be creating more realistic plans for the year. February feels like the time when the ‘real you’ emerges, and that is something to be celebrated.
