International Women's Day Special 2023 - Caroline Peyton
To celebrate International Women's Day, we interviewed some influential women to share with you all about why IWD is important to them.
What’s your name: Caroline Peyton
What’s your profession? Nutritionist and Naturopath
What’s your business? Peyton Principles- Natural Health
Where is this business based? Swindon/Cotswolds
What does #embracequity mean to you? It’s recognising that different groups of people (including women) may require greater levels of support than others to achieve a fairer more balanced society.
In which of these areas do you support women and why?: I support Women and Health because The British Medical Association only last year recognised the fact that women fare more poorly compared with men in relation to disease prevalence, access to healthcare, and outcomes after treatment. We also know that historically medical research has focused mostly on men, often excluding women participants from health research studies. This has to change.
Which women have inspired you over the last year generally? Sharon Davies (swimmer) for speaking out for the rights of biological female athletes. Dr Vandana Shiva for her environmental activism especially around protecting farmers' rights.
Which local women have inspired you in the last year? I have been inspired by Samantha Scott in the past year. Not only for her own business success but also for her drive and passion to help other women succeed.
What do you think are the biggest issues facing women this year and beyond? It continues to be a struggle for women to be taken as seriously as men across most sectors of society.
Why do you think it's important to have an International Women's Day? To recognise the amazing abilities and achievements of women worldwide to inspire the younger generation.
