International Women's Day Special 2023 - Charlott McAnsh

To celebrate International Women's Day, we interviewed some influential women to share with you all about why IWD is important to them.

What’s your name? Charlott McAnsh 

What’s your profession? Director 

What’s your business? See No Bounds  

Where is this business based? Based in Cardiff South Wales but operate globally. 

If you have a team – do you have a gender mix? Are there challenges in achieving this? What are they? Our team has 8 women and 7 men, which was not planned; however, we focus on individual merit during selection rather than gender, so forming the team has not been challenging. 

What does #embracequity mean to you? To me, #embracequity means to recognise and accept the uniqueness of each individual, and to create a safe and inclusive environment that values and respects everyone's differences. It is about creating a culture that celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion and encourages everyone to challenge the status quo.

I support women in all of these roles. However, I firmly believe that both women and men should be respected, valued, and celebrated for their potential, capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses, as well as their merits. In order to truly dismantle the barriers that prevent true equity in the workplace, we must first identify and understand them, so that we can work towards a society where everyone is treated equally, regardless of gender, culture, or disability. 

Which women have inspired you over the last year generally? Michelle Obama has inspired me for many reasons. Her gracefulness and intelligence and the way she communicates in any circle. Michelle Obama is an example of how one person can make a difference in the world and inspire others to do the same. She has used her platform to create positive change, and her leadership and determination serve as a beacon of hope for millions of people. 

Which local women have inspired you in the last year? Fiona Scott has inspired me with her fabulous no-nonsense power hours and Samantha Jayne has inspired me with her abundance coaching and no-nonsense techniques for you to regain your purpose and confidence.  

What do you think are the biggest issues facing women this year and beyond? The number one issue faced by women in today's society is gender inequality. This can manifest in many ways, such as unequal pay, lack of representation in leadership positions, a disproportionate burden of unpaid care work, and higher rates of violence against women. However, I feel that this can only be achieved when we achieve complete equality across the board.

Why do you think it's important to have an International Women's Day? International Women's Day is important because it helps to recognise and celebrate the achievements of women around the world, while also encouraging us to continue to strive for greater gender equality. By recognising the progress that has already been made, and the progress that still needs to be achieved, we can build a stronger, more equitable society for everyone.
