Jodie Fraser of Fraser Allen Estate Managament is sharing her plans for September with us
September is almost here – what will this month bring? We’re talking to small business owners and finding out what September has in store for them!
Today we're talking to Jodie Fraser, founder and CEO of Fraser Allen Estate Management which is an award-winning block management specialist in the residential sector. With their head office in Cheltenham, the team also covers Bristol, Bath, Wiltshire and the West Midlands.
How was your summer as we go into autumn? Any highlights for you or your business?
My summer in the block management sector has been quite eventful and productive as we transition into autumn. There have been several highlights both for our business and me personally.
Firstly, one of the most significant developments has been our continued commitment to improving sustainability and energy efficiency within the properties we manage. With the growing emphasis on environmental responsibility, we've worked on implementing eco-friendly initiatives such as energy-efficient lighting, improved insulation, and sustainable landscaping in many of our managed blocks.
This not only aligns with our values but also enhances the living experience for residents and helps reduce operating costs in the long run.
On a personal note, I had the opportunity to attend several industry conferences and networking events during the summer. These events provided valuable insights into the evolving landscape of block management in the UK, from regulatory changes to emerging trends. Networking with industry peers and experts has been instrumental in staying updated and fostering partnerships that benefit our business.
Furthermore, as the demand for block management services continues to grow, we've expanded our client base, taking on new and exciting projects. This growth has allowed us to further solidify our reputation in the industry and showcase our expertise in providing top notch property management services.
As we head into autumn, I'm looking forward to continuing these positive trends and exploring new opportunities for growth and improvement in the block management sector. While challenges undoubtedly lie ahead, the summer has laid a strong foundation for our business to thrive and adapt to the changing needs of our clients and residents.
What’s coming up for your business in September?
In September, there are several exciting developments and initiatives on the horizon for us including:
Renewable Energy Integration: One of our major focuses in September is to accelerate the integration of renewable energy solutions into the properties we manage. We are actively exploring partnerships with solar energy providers and evaluating the feasibility of installing solar panels on rooftops. This initiative aligns with our commitment to sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint of the properties under our management.
Maintenance Planning: September marks the beginning of the autumn season, and we are gearing up for proactive maintenance planning. With colder weather approaching, it's crucial to ensure that all properties are well-prepared to handle the challenges of the season. We will be conducting thorough property inspections and scheduling maintenance tasks to address any issues before they become major problems.
Overall, September is a month of proactive planning and action in the block management sector. We are committed to delivering exceptional service to our clients and ensuring that the properties we manage are well-maintained, sustainable, and compliant with all relevant regulations.
World Gratitude Day takes place this month (Sept 21). What are you grateful for in your business/organisation/at home?
In my business, I'm profoundly grateful for the incredible team of professionals who have supported me in building Fraser Allen Estate Management. Their dedication, hard work, and commitment to our mission have been instrumental in our success. I'm thankful for their expertise and the collaborative spirit that drives us forward in the competitive block management sector in the UK.
I'm also grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact on the communities we serve. Providing quality property management services not only benefits our clients but also enhances the lives of the residents in the properties we manage.
This sense of purpose is deeply fulfilling.
At home, I cherish the precious moments spent with my three-year-old daughter. Her boundless energy, curiosity, and innocence bring joy and laughter to our daily lives. Witnessing her growth is a constant reminder of the beauty of parenthood.
However, there have been challenges and responsibilities that come with caring for my grandmother, who is in the end stages of dementia. While this role can be emotionally demanding, I am grateful for the opportunity to provide love and support to someone who has been a significant presence in my life. It reminds me of the importance of compassion, empathy, and the value of family bonds.
On World Gratitude Day, I am reminded to express gratitude not only for the successes and joys in my business and personal life but also for the strength and resilience to navigate the challenges and complexities that come my way. It is a day to acknowledge the support system I have and to reflect on the lessons learned.
What are your hopes for business for the rest of this year?
The block management sector in the UK is subject to evolving regulations. We're committed to staying ahead of these changes and ensuring that our team is well-informed and compliant with all legal requirements.
We are dealing with a lot of messages around ‘bad’ news such as the rising cost of living and interest rates rising. How are you keeping positive?
In the block management sector just like in any other industry, staying positive and resilient in the face of challenging news and circumstances is essential. Here are some tips that I can share for maintaining a positive outlook, both in business and in general:
Focus on What You Can Control: In the property management sector, there are external factors like rising interest rates, the energy crisis and the cost of living that are beyond our control. Instead of dwelling on these factors, concentrate on what you can control within your business. This might include optimising operations, improving customer service, and finding innovative solutions to enhance efficiency.
Maintain a Positive Company Culture: Foster a positive and supportive company culture. Encourage open communication, collaboration, and teamwork among your staff. A positive work environment can help your team stay motivated and engaged, even during challenging times. And don’t forget to take care of your personal well-being. Balancing the demands of work and personal life is essential for maintaining a positive outlook. Engage in activities that help you relax and recharge, whether it's spending time with family, pursuing a hobby, or practising mindfulness.
Focus on Customer Satisfaction: In times of uncertainty, delivering exceptional customer service is crucial. Listen to your clients and residents, address their concerns promptly, and demonstrate your commitment to their well-being. Happy customers are more likely to remain loyal, even when faced with economic challenges.
And finally, September 30 is International Podcast Day. Do you listen to podcasts or do you have one of your own?
I appreciate the value of podcasts for staying informed and gaining insights into my own industry and the business and wellbeing world in general. Some of my favourites include The Property Management Podcast with That Property Mum, The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett, and On the Block with Richard Stone.
I’m also very excited to announce that I will be launching my very own podcast in 2024, called Beyond Four Walls. This podcast will focus on the challenges of the block and property management industry, but I will also be talking to the people who work within the industry and those living within leasehold flats.
