July Talk with Dave Southby

July is speeding by and hotting up! We've had Wimbledon, the Tour de France and the British Open in golf, as well as a leadership contest in government and a heatwave rising. How is July shaping up for business owners? Today we're talking to Dave Southby of Dave Southby Financial Planning who offers holistic financial planning, looking at all aspects of a client's personal and financial situation, to create a plan for their long-term financial well-being. Dave is based in Wroughton yet can work with clients all over the UK.

What are your plans for the rest of July?
July tends to be a little quieter so I’m taking the opportunity to do more in the community and network more. I hosted a free financial drop-in service on the 15th of July at the Ellendune Centre in Wroughton with Martin Baker at Martin Baker Estate Planning. We gave local people the opportunity to pop in and ask any questions they may have on their minds.

I also visited the Ridgeway School for their year 10 careers day – which was great but scary how quickly the time has gone since I was there as a student! I’m also excited to say I have my long term care insurance exam in July which will allow me to expand the service I offer to my clients. 

One of my networking groups, BusinessWise, took part in the South West business show and we also had our summer BBQ at Coate Water. It is always nice to get out and do things outside of our breakfast meeting.

What are your personal plans for this month? 
We don’t have many plans this month, apart from going to watch Les Misérables in Bristol at the end of the month. We saw it a few years ago in London and it was amazing so we're looking forward to seeing it again! Apart from that, I’m going to try and get out of the golf course as much as I can!

Does July hold any particular significance for you?
July is the start of the 12 month countdown to our wedding! So everything is starting to get real now! 

Do you like sport – and if so do any sporting tournaments or events stand out for you this month? 
Yes I love sport. I try to follow and watch as much as I can; Wimbledon, British Grand Prix, The Open Championship and of course this year, the start of the Commonwealth Games! I try and play golf as much as I can, I have only been playing around 18 months so I’m still hit or miss but I love it.  

Can you name one business you’d like to give a summer shout out to? 
I would like to shout out Dean’s Muddy Buddies - a dog walking service located in Wroughton. They have just officially launched a new service offering ‘Wedding Packages’. He would bring them along when you are having your photos then provide care through the day to make sure they are happy, walked & fussed! Dean has been walking our dogs, Reggie & Winnie for years and we jumped at this service for our big day next July.
