Live broadcasts will build buzz around homebuilding show
The UK’s only permanent venue dedicated to independent homebuilding advice and support is using a novel way to promote its autumn 2024 event – an online, talk show.
The National Self Build & Renovation Centre in Swindon has commissioned Visual PR to produce three episodes in the run-up, as well as a live broadcast from the event in October.
Established in 2007, the NSBRC has helped over a quarter of a million visitors to the centre to create better, sustainable homes or extend and improve their existing properties.
Its two-day show, on October 11th and 12th, brings together masterclasses, case studies, seminars and a line-up of experts available to share their advice. There will be more than 200 exhibitors in the trades area, and a range of professional services on hand, including architects, designers, and planning experts.
By bringing in Swindon-based Visual PR, NSBRC’s Managing Director, Harvey Fremlin, hopes to create a buzz in the lead up to the show, culminating in a live broadcast throughout the first day.
He also wants to dispel the idea that the centre is only for larger projects; in fact, it is aimed at anyone who wants to design and build their own home, renovate or extend their home, or retrofit their existing property to make it more energy efficient and comfortable.
“We hope the broadcasts will make people aware of the show, and interested in and excited about what’s going on,” said Harvey. “We also want people to know how accessible the centre is. It’s not just for big budget projects. We help people with even modest projects, giving them support and advice. When people find us, they come back many times, so we would love to let more people know we are here.”
Visual PR is headed by Chris Dawes. Chris will host, whilst his team direct and produce ‘Self Build & Renovation: Live!’, using their virtual studio suite. Broadcast live across NSBRC’s YouTube and social media channels, the shows are unscripted – which makes them more natural and engaging - and will include special guests and features.
They can also be watched later on catch-up, with excerpts clipped to use as social media posts, and the audio extracted for a podcast on platforms like Spotify, Amazon, and Apple.
Episodes will be broadcast live on September 3rd, September 18th, and October 1st. The series will conclude with a live broadcast on October 11th, from the show itself, featuring studio interviews and a roaming camera.
Harvey said: “We’ll talk about what’s going on at the show, offer advice and information on self build, and whet people’s appetite so they come along, either to the show itself or to visit the centre another time, as we are here all year round.”
There are also plans in the pipeline to continue the series beyond October, to promote the NSBRC’s show at the end of January.
Chris said: “The NSBRC series will be a great way to raise awareness of the organisation, the facilities they have, and the services that they and their partners provide. It will give them content for their social media channels, and hopefully increase their following and engagement online, as well as increase footfall to the show itself.
“They wanted to do something creative, different, and to help them engage with people and I am sure Visual PR will deliver this.”
