Louise Hunt Skelley PLY has an exciting March coming up!
It’s March! The first month of Spring and the month the clocks go forward this month so it will be lighter nights and less time asleep! It was also the Budget this month! What does the world of business look like this week?
Up today is Louise Hunt Skelley PLY. Louise is a former Paralympic tennis player who travelled competing and who was ranked top ten in the world at the height of her career. Today she’s a television commentator on sports, a motivational speaker and an advocate and activist around disability rights.
How is March looking for you in your business?
I was excited to speak for International Women’s Day! It’s so important that this day is celebrated and to be invited to a brilliant local event to share my story is a real privilege. I can’t wait to be surrounded by other local women who are succeeding in business, as this always inspires and motivates me to keep striving for my ambitions too!
Are you taking part in any wider events or business collaborations this month?
This month my diary is mainly full of school and business talks. However, I have just created a brand-new business with someone who is truly remarkable, and we’re passionate about changing perceptions and bringing together our expertise, and others to start something really exciting. I can’t say too much more at this stage but watch this space, I’m super excited about this collaboration.
This month it’s International Women’s Day, St David’s Day, National No Smoking Day. Is there an awareness day or week this month which is important to you or your business?
This month we see both International Wheelchair Day and International Women’s Day. Both days I passionately want to celebrate.
International Wheelchair Day for me, brings a brilliant opportunity to celebrate what wheelchairs can do in terms of transforming your life for the positive. I love using this day to break down the stigmas that using a wheelchair is a sad/negative thing, when actually it’s the very thing which gives me all my independence and has allowed me to achieve things beyond many expectations.
I’m also very proud to be a self-employed independent disabled woman, and changing the narrative around what stereotypes are placed upon us and what we can achieve is very important to me. Celebrating being a woman in business is something I’m very proud of and I hope that if other women see what I have accomplished, they can realise that they are more than capable of doing the same! That’s how I learnt to believe in myself, I saw others doing it first!
Would you like to share your thoughts about your mother, a mother figure in your life or your life with a mother or as a mother?
There isn’t enough words to explain how grateful I am for my superhero mum! She is truly the glue which holds our family together and is the most self-less person I’ve ever known. She loves unconditionally and has never wavered in her support and belief in me and all I set my mind too. I’d be lost without her, and I am very aware than I won the lottery with who I got for a mum!
In the yearly cycle of your business – what do you expect during March?
Super busy as per usual! Just the way I like it! As mentioned, this month I have a big focus on finalising a new collaboration which I’m super excited about alongside lots of talks and appearances. At the end of the month however I have 5 days booked away in Wales, with my parents and best friend and cannot wait. A break I truly need!
Alongside everything else I’m also working on my very first book which will be released in the summer! Watch this space!
