Chido Poe from Banya - Summer August Q&A 2021
We've been talking to various business owners about their summer and autumn plans and today we're talking to Chido Poe who is managing director of the national Banya Family Placement Agency, who place looked after children from the local authorities in the care of foster carers.
How is August looking in your organisation?
August is our quietest month as many of our carers go on holiday with the children and young people.
What are your personal plans for the summer?
I recently went to Dorset where I got to spend quality time with my partner and children.
I would recommend visiting Park Holiday UK the Mudeford site as it has fantastic accommodation and beaches. It’s quite difficult to travel abroad at the moment so I would suggest a staycation.
The Olympics – Tokyo 2020 – are drawing to a close now though the Paralympics will be back? Have you seen anything which touched or inspired you?
The three Jamaican woman who came first, second and third in the 100m sprints were phenomenal. I love to see countries such as Jamaica win as they are such a small island with limited resources yet still so talented.
It also made me feel empowered to see black women do so well and I felt a part of their victory.
Did you know August 21 is World Entrepreneurs Day? What does this word mean to you and do you apply it to yourself?
Yes I consider myself to be an entrepreneur. What it means to me is anybody who generates an income from themselves with a service they offer. Most entrepreneurs see a problem in society and come up with a way to fix it.
As we move further through the pandemic, how are you feeling about the future of business in general in August 2021?
I’m feeling hopeful. Banya managed to get through the worst of it and still stands strong.
Have you got any events planned for the autumn you’d like to shout about – either that you are running or attending?
I am going to be putting on an awards show for our young people in October. We will come up with different categories and present our young people with an award. I want this event to empower our young people and celebrate how special they are.
Our ambassador Ashley Jean Baptisse will be a guest speaker there and I have more lined up. It's going to be a mixture of awards, speakers, and performances and will hopefully be entertaining to our audience.
And finally, this week it's National Tell a Joke Day? Can you tell us a joke and raise a laugh?
What did the big chimney say to the little chimney?
You’re too young to smoke!
