Lewis Kidd from Sims Parker & Kidd - Summer Q&A 2021
Let's continue to celebrate the variety of business owners we have in our region and beyond. Today we're talking to Lewis Kidd, business owner based in Swindon who runs Sims Parker & Kidd offering drone videography and photography for business owners across the South West.
JUNE is the first month of summer – what will you be doing this summer in your business?
We tend to be quite busy carrying out a wide range surveys, inspections, mapping missions, filming and 360 degree virtual tours - the latter for estate agents which really helps with safety and social distancing. They are proving very popular. We also have the right kit to do it (no it's not a drone!).
What are your personal plans for the summer:
We tend to be very busy with our increasing workload, I feel it is also important to enjoy this time of year with my family. This is also a time for picnics and bbqs.
Does June hold any particular significance for you or your business?
Yes, it was when I was first advised a few years ago that I was going to be made redundant from my former role and came up with the idea of starting a drone based business.
June is National Smile Month. With that in mind, what things in your business make you smile?
Just going to work in general, the workload tends to be quite high during this time of the year and there are many early starts - yet I love it.
June is often associated in nature with growth and abundance – what are your plans for growth in your business this year?
There are a number of projects which we are currently working on which will ultimately lead to expansion as these services become live, further projects with fellow business contacts has also led to increased business activity as well as generating new and different revenue streams.
I am currently looking at expanding my drone fleet with some drones which use cutting edge technology.
As a business we do not just carry out surveys and inspections but also mapping and film work. From a personal development point of view I am currently working towards gaining permission from the CAA to fly beyond visual line of sight.
As we hit this mid point in 2021 and we’re still coming out of the pandemic – which one business has really supported or helped you over the last quarter?
It's too hard to choose just one! I'd like to mention specifically TLC Property Services Ltd, Thornton Associates and Midwinter Web Design.
Have you got any events planned for the coming months which you’d like to mention?
We are currently supporting Midwinter Web Design by carrying out filming at Stanton House Hotel which is located in Stanton Fitzwarren.
And finally:
I'd like to mention by business referral group BusinessWise in Swindon which has been so important for me and my business. Working with other members has led to developing new service offerings both to their client base as well as ours.
I think this collaborate approach to doing business is very exciting and I would thoroughly recommend it.
