Meet Mike Lloyd from Haines Watts Chartered Accountants - Summer August Q&A 2021
August is here. It's the month of summer, holidays, the Olympics and the Paralympics. What will business and life look like for you this month?
Today we're talking to Mike Lloyd who is managing partner at Haines Watts Chartered Accountants based in Old Town, Swindon. Mike has led the Swindon team for more than 25 years.
How is August looking in your business?
Looking very busy due to influx of new clients and project work for existing ones.
What are your personal plans for this month?
We went to Madeira in June and we're going back the autumn so had best do some work in August!
Did you know August 21 is World Entrepreneurs Day? What does this word mean to you and do you apply it to yourself?
Entrepreneurs are the drivers of our economy. Turning small businesses into big ones, selling then and doing it again (and again sometimes).
They employ many creating the tax payments that our society needs to survive and thrive.
Yes I would say it applies to me and this means that I can relate to my client base and the many entrepreneurs within it.
As we move further through the pandemic, how are you feeling about the future of business in general in August 2021?
Cautiously optimistic. We have come out of what is hopefully our third and final lockdown and businesses are recruiting and growing again.
My concerns are lack of human resources to support that growth and the effects of the furlough withdrawal coinciding with the commencement of CBILS and Bounce Back loans commencing.
And finally, August 16 is National Tell a Joke Day? Can you tell us a joke?
- Patient – I can’t stop singing “The Green Green Grass of Home”
- Doctor – That sounds like Tom Jones Syndrome
- Patient - Is that common?
- Doctor - Well, It’s not Unusual
