Tell us a little bit about yourself…
My name is Simon Crisp. I am the founder of Green Machine computers I'm a complete geek at heart. I love Star Wars and lots of other geeky things too. I keep myself fully up to date in new technologies and currently loving all the AI programs being developed.
What inspired you to create Green Machine Computers?
I started green machine because I used to see an awful lot of tech lying around in to IT companies across the UK and every business that you go into has a whole room full of unused tech, which the company doesn't really know what to do with it because it's got data on it and they don't want to let that go out into the general public. So I decided to start an organization which would take that tech and take it away from the site in a competent way, scrubbing the data and then donating it and putting it to good use.
How important is it for you to be sustainable and eco-friendly?
I think it's really important to be eco friendly and in today's throwaway society, someone needs to do something about it, the world is in need of a serious shake up and I think that tech should have a longer shelf life for starters and it should be UK Law for us to repair and refurbish products we use day to day.. Did you know that under the Right to Repair Act white good suppliers need to legally provide spare parts for you to be able to repair them, where as phones and laptops and other computer equipment was not included on the bill? IF it was, laptops and computers could be reused for years and years. Not just the length of the warranty.
How does Green Machine Computers stay green?
Green Machine stays green by having targets each year on where we put our carbon goals by recycling internally as well. So the paper and the plastics we use in house are all recycled by making sure that we reuse and refurbish as much stuff as we can.
In in the building. We also have ISO 14,001, which is an accreditation for environmental management, which is something we use to manage and define our goals each year.
What makes you different to any other IT company in Swindon?
I think we're different from the majority of IT companies across Swindon and Wiltshire and beyond is we're not a profit driven organization. Even though we're a private limited company. We are here on a mission to make the World a better place and to help others as our business grows. And we've been doing that since we started. We've won numerous awards for the good we do, we've donated hundreds of 1000s of pounds to charities and schools across the whole of England, we've supported and helped hundreds and hundreds of children and people, and on top of that, we've also made the planet greener by reducing the carbon footprint of every business we've ever worked with.
