My Strategy For Surviving Coronavirus
By Mike Land of Nickel Design who has just started his own business after a career spanning over 25 years as a graphic designer, artist and brand strategist.
When did you realise the Coronavirus could be a problem for you and your business?
As a design service, we are the tools of our trade. COVID-19 has affected our industry by attacking our client base. SMEs that rely on foot trade or visiting clients in their businesses or homes, those who specialise in exhibitions, fitness (especially group activities) or training and coaching have seen their events cancelled, postponed or put on hold until further notice.
What has been your plan to continue?
We are heading to the social media platforms. And recommend that you follow us... we have a plan for the future of your advertising and marketing.
What advice would you give to others in business?
Take this time to evaluate how your business operates.
- How do you promote your business?
- Are you attracting the right customers?
- How effective is your social media presence?
Think about cross-selling opportunities (You don't need to do this alone - this could be one of your best customers, your business network or buddies).
How effective is your brand, product or service? Could you benefit from a refresh/rebrand?
What can we do to help each other?
Evaluate the benefits of cross-selling. Take a look at your business network and see what relationships you could build together?
Support your network of business owners on social media, like, follow and share their posts.
Form collaborations with those you know through networking - you never know who might need your services and who they might know. Build that trust and rapport.
Take a leap of faith with these colleagues, it won't be like this forever!
What do you think can be learned from this in the business world?
Stay on your toes... don't throw your money away on services which don't serve you and your business vision, make sure your investment is working for you.
Keep your online presence performing.
Look for those opportunities for cross-selling and networking.
And IF you can't do it all... find the right person for the job.
Your parting thought?
It's difficult to think about promoting yourself when all around you are losing business.
But, if we stick together and fight it out. I believe there will be light at the end of this tunnel.
