Neil Moore's 2021 Summer Business Plans
Today we're talking to Neil Moore who runs Moore Photographics based in Marlborough. Neil specialises in working with business owners all across the South West taking pictures of teams, individuals, products. He has his own studio where he can take very detailed pictures and often does this for artists, antique dealers and restoration specialists. Neil is also a skilled photographer in working with people who want images with their pets or their pet cars!!
May is the last month of Spring – how has Spring been for you so far?
Spring has seen growth in all aspects of my business with lots of outdoor photo shoots whilst dodging the rain. In the studio there has also been increased activity photographing products for e-commerce websites as the demand for on-line buying continues to grow.
What are your plans for the Summer – for your business and for you?
The summer will see me driving to Scotland to visit and photograph the stunning landscapes and ruins. These images will be the continued inspiration for my Scotland Tour books which started in 2016. 2020 has become “wish I was there” collection of the photographs I hadn’t used in my previous books. These will be available later in the year after the final proofs have been approved.
What are you most looking forward this summer which you had to step away from last summer?
After the 21st June when hopefully we will see all restrictions lifted. I am looking forward to the freedom of not having to continually work out what is allowed and what is not allowed during lockdown.
May is National Walking Month, and walking was an activity which was one thing we could do over the last 12 months.
I have been frustrated with a very painful hamstring which has restricted my mobility and therefore walking. However, now that it has eased enough I am enjoying my walking again. As with all my walking I take my camera to capture those moments I would have to commit to memory instead. No camera = no photo = a memory that fades. Take your camera and the memory can last forever.
Where is your favourite place to walk?
I am spoilt by living on the edge of the Savernake forest and have enjoyed many hours exploring the many hidden areas. However, my favourite walking areas can be found anywhere along the West Coast of Scotland. That is if I am not sitting on the beach with my bottle of scotch enjoying the gales blowing.
Can you name one day in May which is important for you in your business or in your personal life? Why is that date important?
May the 17th must be the most important day for most businesses so far as it is for us. The ease in restrictions will allow me to re-enter buildings to photograph products, staff and working machinery. A core aspect of our photographic business disciplines.
Have you got any events planned for the coming months which you’d like to mention – where you and/or your business will take a leading role?
As a founder member, I am looking forward to seeing Business Networking London start their networking events again. As their principal photographer I am especially looking forward to photographing the events which will be used throughout their website and marketing material.
Are you attending any events at all for you as a business person, or for you personally that you are really looking forward to?
Having recently photographed the launch of a restored river boat I have been invited to photograph at the “Traditional Boat Festival” in Henley-on-Thames over the August Bank Holiday weekend. This will be great fun and includes a fleet of the Dunkirk “little Ships”. I’m sure there will be odd glass or two raised in salutation.
What’s your one top business tip to help others be positive about their business in May 2021?
I have found getting dressed as if I was going out to work and seeing clients has helped me remain positive during the lockdown. It is too easy not to bother and you end up slouching around instead…
Tell us all one funny thing about you which we won’t know and you are happy to share (make us laugh!).
After receiving my first vaccination I followed the instructions not to drive for a while afterwards. So cameras in hand, I went for a short walk along the river and took a number of photographs of the sun illuminating the river and buildings. On my return I was going through the photographs I had taken and to my complete surprise when I zoomed in to check the sharpness of the photograph, I noticed a couple was kissing on a bench. But even more bizarrely I saw a couple to the left peering from around a building watching them!
The moral of the story I suppose is that you never know who is watching what you are doing in public, and that worse still, you are being watched doing the watching… (The Paparazzi are everywhere)
