November Talk with Neil Moore of Moore Photographics

November is here Q4 is under way. What's been going on for you in your business or life? Today we're talking to Neil Moore of Moore Photographics based in Cadley near Marlborough. Neil specialises in commercial photography of people, products, premises and places.

What’s your business highlight for November 2022 (or even from October 2022)?
As a photographer I have found over the years that the type of photography I do happens in wave.  For example, this month I am engaged to do quite a number of on location corporate headshots, whereas last month most of my activity was photographing products in the studio.

And what about a personal highlight this last month?
November is always an interesting month for me. Celebrating my birthday during this month, I always take time to see whether I have achieved what I had set out to do last year.  I am pleased to report that I have achieved many of the tasks I had set myself.

Now, to set myself a to-do wish list for the coming year.  Which of course, includes the couple of stragglers from last year?

This is a month for Bonfire Night & Diwali – do either of those hold meaning or memory for you?
A good friend of mine shares their birthday with bonfire night, so is often celebrated together.  I am however intrigued by Diwali and will endeavour to learn more about it this year.

November represents Movember – Men’s Health Awareness Month. What, if anything does this mean to you?
Although I am aware that November has been flagged as Movember, I have been looking what to do with my health for some time now. Losing friends to illnesses over the last two months has focused my mind to really do something about my weight. To this end I have finally started a regime that will help me reach my desired weight and fitness next year – wish me luck to stay focused.

Are you doing anything in November for charity or for a community or volunteer project?
Some of you will know that I am a platelet donor, which I do every three weeks, and can report that I have scheduled my appointments through to the middle of January now.

Has the recent turmoil in the economy, government or the cost of living crisis affected your business? Or your personal life in any way that you are happy to share?
Over the last twenty odd years I have seen many ups and downs and this recent period is yet another challenge to overcome. One thing is to continue pushing forward, spending time and effort marketing your business to raise awareness that you are always there when a prospective client is ready to commit.

What’s your top tip for being positive in the midst of a lot of negativity?
Carefully plan where you and your business need to be at the end of each and every month and follow through

Did you know November 13 is World Kindness Day – has anyone shown kindness to you in the last month or so? At home and/or work? 
After the passing of three of my friends I have received an enormous amount of warmth and kindness from my business colleagues and friends. Thank you.

It’s also Black Friday on November 26 which is now quite mainstream – do you participate in this within your business? Or do you prefer the Buy Nothing Day on November 27?
I have found that the deals offered on Black Friday have become less of a deal over the years in much the same way as Christmas Sales.  I am also uncertain whether this type of offer undervalues what you do as a business or raises the expectations that you always offer a discount.

Are there any awareness days or special weeks in November which are relevant to your business/organisation or sector?
I think Cyber Monday is a very important day for raising the awareness to the vulnerabilities of all the electronic devices we use.  If you don’t know how to protect your devices - ask a professional, IT company to help.

Have you got any events planned for November or December you’d like to shout about – either that you are running or attending?
As a member of an excellent networking group, Businesswise here in Swindon, I am looking forward to our Christmas party and relaxing amongst colleagues and friends.
