REVOLUTION PERFORMING ARTS TO STAGE “ALL WELCOME” GOLDEN TICKET SHOW

Swindon’s community-focused performing arts company, Revolution Performing Arts, will be staging its Golden Ticket Show at Swindon Arts Centre on Saturday 20 January 2024.

The annual event provides young people with the opportunity to perform on a professional stage without the pressure of rehearsals or the requirement for a “polished” performance. It is set up specifically for performers to have friends and family supporting them in the audience with the knowledge that everyone in the room is rooting for them. Organisers describe the event as “a relaxed, informal and supportive performance that celebrates the talent and creativity present in the local community.”

Any kind of performance is welcomed, from juggling to singing, dancing, magic or comedy, and there is no pressure on young people to perform on the night if they find they have last minute cold feet. Organisers say they are always delighted at the creativity and imagination on display at the Golden Ticket Show and RPA’s founder, Fi Da Silva Adams, describes it as one of the most rewarding events on their calendar.

“It’s such an amazing display of kindness and support for the young people who decide to perform,” she says. “An essential ethos of RPA is making arts accessible, and I have found that this event is a fantastic opportunity for those young people who would like to try performing and need a supportive and safe environment to do so can perform with zero pressure. We want everyone to feel included.”

Revolution Performing Arts was set up by Fi Da Silva Adams in 2007 as a drama group for toddlers and pre-school age children. It quickly expanded to become a performing arts company for children of all ages and was the first organisation of its kind to bring performing arts after-school clubs to the Swindon area. Today it runs sessions for more than 400 children every week from a diverse range of socio-economic backgrounds and stages five public shows across its annual calendar.

Its sister organisation, Rapport Community Interest Company (CIC), is specifically aimed at young people aged 11-18 and offers free places for young people affected by domestic abuse.

Having experienced a challenging start in life herself, Fi Da Silva Adams is a keen advocate of the power of the arts to support young people to express themselves in way that is both nurturing and empowering. The Golden Ticket Show is a powerful reminder of the contribution that Revolution Performing Arts make all year round to the creative development and wellbeing of young people in the Swindon area.

“This show is the embodiment of our ethos and what RPA does,” says Fi Da Silva Adams. “We support a range of wonderful young people and we’re proud to be the space they find safe and welcoming. We have had the most amazing moments at this show over the years. Some young people arrive with full confidence to get on stage. Others are quieter and may need a parent or friend to go on stage with them. We love to see that encouragement and support and to witness the profound impact it has on the young people we look after. It’s amazing.”

Early-bird tickets for RPA’s Golden Ticket Show are now available for £14 each. The price will rise on 1stJanuary to £16 and tickets can be bought up until the day of the performance. There is no additional fee to perform and you don’t have to be a member of RPA to take part. Organisers ask that parents with a child intending to perform email before 15th January to let them know.  Families with a young person intending to perform at the Golden Ticket Show should email [email protected]
