Statement from Chief Executive Kevin McNamara:
“It gives me great sadness to announce the death of a member of our GWH family.
“Dr Thaung Htaik, a consultant in general medicine died earlier this week, having tested positive for COVID-19.
“Dr Htaik, who was 65, had worked with us since January 2019 and was a universally well-liked member of the team, who was known for his unwavering dedication to his patients, positive attitude, and willingness to help.
“On behalf of the whole Trust, I would like to extend our sincere condolences to Thaung’s family. Our thoughts are with them, and his friends and colleagues at the Trust. We ask that their privacy is respected at this extremely difficult time.”
Dr Htaik is survived by his wife, four children, and three grandchildren. His family has asked us to release the following statement on their behalf:
“Thaung was a beloved husband, father and grand-father who we will miss greatly. He always put others first and we know just how committed he was to looking after his patients both at this difficult time and throughout his career. We would personally like to thank everyone who worked with Thaung, and also everyone who looked after him so well while he was in hospital.”
