Scott Dixon's 2021 Business Growth & Plans
Today we're talking to Scott Dixon who is a freelance book publisher based in Edinburgh who offers a one-stop shop for all aspiring authors to bring books to life on Amazon.
It's April, how does this month fit into the ebb & flow of your year?
I have a couple of repeat clients who have new books which they would like me to publish for them, so I am looking forward to reading their work. That’s the best part of it. I can design the book covers, proofread, edit, format, typeset and format all manuscripts so everything is done in-house.
It fits in well with my other commitments and it is rewarding to see clients delighted with their books and make them an author.
What are you most looking forward to as the country tries to ‘open up’?
I am looking forward to being able to just get out of the five-mile city boundary which I have been locked in for quite some time.
I fell ill with Covid last March 2020 and ended up in hospital, so I am also looking forward to warmer weather so I can rebuild my fitness which has been shot to bits.
It’s also Stress Awareness Month, what measures have you taken in your business to reduce the stress on yourself & your team?
Resigning from a job that compromised my own values and morals was certainly liberating and immediately reduced my stress levels! I intend to just focus on my own health and wellbeing in addition to working on different projects that I want to accomplish.
I also enjoy writing and helping others by creating content on various consumer issues and motoring disputes for my blog www.thegrumpygit.com. I have saved consumers hundreds of thousands of pounds over the past five years. My motto is to educate, inspire and inform and I get results every time.
What do you do personally to support your health and wellbeing?
That’s a good question as I probably don’t do enough as there’s never enough time in the day to do what I have to do.
I live near Holyrood Park, Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile so I try and do 3-mile walks around my locality at least twice a week and tie it in with my shopping.
I have a small garden and I look after my elderly neighbour’s garden too, so I enjoy pottering about keeping them tidy.
Do you see your product/service as one which supports the health and wellbeing of others such as your clients?
It can do in somewhat of a tenuous way as everyone has a book inside them. Helping others tell their own story and bring their books to life is a win-win for my clients and me.
People can learn from reading about other’s experiences, and some of the books I have published personally and for my clients actually help support the health and wellbeing of others and raise awareness of different topics.
As the year goes on, will you take health and wellbeing more seriously going forward?
I will have to – no denying it really. I considered myself bombproof before Covid and being hospitalised with it was a harrowing experience which has set me back physically and mentally.
Have you got any Spring services or special offers you’d like to mention?
I am offering a 15% discount on my normal rates until the end of May for all of the book publishing services I offer. Get in touch and see how I can help you bring your work to life.
And finally:
Thank you to the Total Guide to team for the opportunity to be featured – I really appreciate it.
