Social media expert urges businesses to keep on posting
Social media expert Yola O’Hara has issued guidance on how businesses should maintain their presence on platforms during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Yola, Managing Director of social media consultancy Visually Explained, said companies and organisations must resist any temptation to stop posting.
“Now more than ever, when we can’t go out and about to visit clients, it is important to keep communicating with our audiences,” said Yola, whose business is based in Royal Wootton Bassett.
“However, the content that we should be posting has changed, to reflect the current situation. But that doesn’t mean we have to avoid humour altogether; we are all stuck at home, so will welcome a little light relief.”
Yola said above all it is important for businesses to remind their clients and audiences that they are still there, and to remind people there is something to look forward to.
“For example, service providers should be explaining that they are still working hard to improve their products, so even if people are not able to make a decision to buy now, they can expect better quality products when they are,” she said. “Community based organisations could support and motivate their audience through posting motivational quotes. Sports centres can remind people to keep fit and advise how they can do this at home.
“There is a great deal of scope, and – while we are all at home – platforms like Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram are being viewed more than ever. The key to successful posting is the same as it always is: remain authentic, good-natured and polite.”
