STAR APPRENTICE DAN IS A MAN WITH A VAN!
APPRENTICE Dan Jago was rewarded for almost four years of hard work by getting his own branded van as he supports customers across Wiltshire with their heating and plumbing.
Dan, who’s 22, joined John Williams Heating Services in 2017 after struggling to find what he wanted to do as a career.
“It took me a while to know what I wanted to do. I took catering and didn’t enjoy that, then I did a course in public services and felt that wasn’t for me either. I decided to go for something more hands on and, during that course, I approached John and Debbie for some work experience and I just fitted right in.”
Dan, who lives in Chippenham and went to Hardenhuish School, then volunteered to work with the team at John Williams Heating Services for a day a week to gain more experience.
“He was so dedicated that as soon as we could we offered him an apprenticeship,” John said.
“We need young people with Dan’s enthusiasm and commitment in our sector and he’s been an asset to the team ever since. The day we gave him keys to his own van, he was speechless! We have had such great feedback about him from our customers, we wanted to reward him.”
Dan will complete his apprenticeship in the summer and will become a qualified gas engineer with the company.
“I just love the work. It’s practical, I’m out and about under strict Covid rules at the moment. The team are fantastic, they are fun and they are hardworking,” Dan said.
John and Debbie Williams have always taken on apprentices during the 17 years that the business has been going. John was himself an apprentice and the company supports National Apprenticeship Week which this year runs from February 8 to February 12.
Debbie said: “This year’s theme is ‘Build The Future’ and apprentices like Dan are the future and we need to value enthusiastic and committed young people and offer them a variety of routes to a career.”
John and Debbie founded John Williams Heating Services in 2004. Today the company has 26 staff, is multi-award winning, and well known for its community support in Chippenham. The company is a Worcester accredited installer and a member of Oftec, the trade association monitoring best practice in oil heating installation and repair. They are also accredited with Gas Safe and are based on the Bumpers Farm Industrial Estate. For more information visit https://jwheating.co.uk
