Swindon Planning Applications: Approved Developments and More

Swindon Borough Council's planning department has approved several significant proposals, including new specialist tuition facility in North Swindon and the conversion of various properties across the town.

Westlea:

A new addition to Delta Business Park in Westlea is set to accommodate a complimentary food and drink business. Fast food giant KFC has received approval to construct a single-storey building next to its drive-through restaurant in West Swindon.

North Star:

Expansion plans for Hop Kettle Brewery in the North Star area have been paused due to parking concerns. The brewery, located in Hawksworth Industrial Estate, supplies its own Old Town pubs as well as bars in Cirencester and Gloucester. A larger unit with an on-site taproom for sampling their brews was included in the expansion proposal. However, council officers and Swindon North Parish Council raised parking issues, leading to the withdrawal of the application despite a revised plan.

Town Centre:

A domestic garage at 47 Station Road might be replaced with a commercial laundrette. William O’Leary has applied to demolish the existing structure, citing its unsafe condition. Access to the new laundrette would be via a gate from Commercial Street.

Redhouse:

A new specialist tuition facility for children and young people with special educational needs will be established at the former hairdressing salon, Unit C, Millgrove House, 59 Millgrove Street. Hunt Scholars Limited has been granted permission to convert the space, previously occupied by 12 hairdressers and their clients, into an educational facility.

Wroughton:

A proposal to cover a brick-built bungalow at 27 Dunbar Road with plaster render has been denied a certificate of lawfulness, as it is considered a ‘development’. Mark Tubey, the applicant, highlighted the need for repointing the brickwork and noted that the neighbouring property is rendered white. Mr. Tubey can still apply for permission to proceed with the render.
