TGt Meets... Emma Smith
In this TGt Meets interview, we introduce you to our brilliant new Content Creator Emma Smith, who will be writing various types of content for our website going forward...
Can we have a quick introduction and a brief description of what you’ll be doing for Total?
My name is Emma Smith, I am a writer and a mum of two. I am not originally from Swindon however, I have been proud to call Swindon my hometown for the past fifteen years. I love to travel, but, I have a terrible sense of direction. Fortunately, I believe in losing yourself in your surroundings!
I am looking forward to providing content for Total in respect of guides, reviews and information. It is a big task, but I love a challenge and most importantly Swindon. Therefore, I feel I could not be better placed, for the job.
What drew you to a career in creating content?
I am passionate about writing and have studied many forms over the years from creative writing to copywriting. In the last two years, I began to realise that I enjoy blogging and writing features about day to day life the most. I am not a short story writer, but, I think that content is storytelling in a different format.
I have embraced the mantra “write about what you know” wholeheartedly and enjoy sharing tales of the town, and my life perspectives as a parent.
Of all the things you’ve written about, which have been your favourite?
My favourite piece of writing was called “The Truth is out there, but are you willing to wait …”. It focused on concerns that modern technology is bringing up an easily distracted generation that may be unable to distinguish fact from fiction because of fake news. I learnt a great deal writing the piece and enjoyed the response it received. It was very relevant at the time, and as a mum still raises me cause for concern.
If you could give someone one piece of advice for creating an engaging piece of written content for your business?
Keep it simple. The biggest mistake people make when writing content is trying to be too, clever. Never use three words when one will do. And most importantly make sure you get to the point of the matter early on.
What do your top things to see and do in Swindon during your free time?
I love to explore the vast countryside and parks that surround our town via walking, running and cycling. My favourite spots are the Old Town Gardens, the old railway track and Barbury Castle.
But, as a mum, I enjoy nothing more than eating homemade ice cream from Ray’s ice cream parlour and catching the latest movie at Regents Circus cinema.
How would you describe Swindon in three words?
Scenic, Supportive, Community.
