TGt Meets… Gemma George

In our latest TGt Meets, we've been speaking to Gemma George, Centre Manager at Fig Offices Swindon, all about her role and what makes our town so great!

Tell us a little bit about your role...

My role here is great. Every day is different, I constantly see new and familiar people to form partnerships and work collaboratively with. I manage the operations/facilities and drive business development/sales across the centre. There is a lovely opportunity for promotion of the Swindon/Wiltshire business sector at the centre which I am keen to drive by way of networking; PR/marketing, including our social presence and engaging with Swindon’s SME’s and local businesses.

What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?

I enjoy the variation and demand of the job. There is so much to get involved in, as well as the day to day running of the centre. I most enjoy uncovering productive working relationships that are mutually beneficial. A centre manager has a very exciting job. I could be changing a light bulb one minute to welcoming a prospective client the next and finding that Fig is exactly what they need to move their business on to the next level.

And the most challenging?

Fig is new to the Swindon market and so we are working hard to promote and encourage the centre for use of meetings rooms and office space. We have some superb facilities including our unique and innovative break out areas; ClickShare technology and free WIFI with experienced and dedicated staff.

What do you think attracts business people to Swindon?

Good location from Bristol and London with great transport links in and out; good local support channels for SME’s and growing companies.

What has been your biggest achievement to date?

First week in the new role and I’ve managed the expansion of a client to one of our largest offices in the centre and implemented a co-working area.

How do you like to spend your time off?

I love to spend time with my 2 beautiful children doing the things they enjoy. Happy children = happy mummy. That being the case, its equally important to have me time. Shopping; cocktails; wonderful food and travel. I spend any spare time I have supporting Swindon Footprints and the local rough sleeping community.

What have been your key challenges and how have you overcome them?

Fig are new to Swindon, it will always a challenge to break into the local business market with a new company. However, we have a strong brand that I am proud to represent and I’m confident that with some hard work and showcasing what we have to offer we will get there.

Your 2pm meeting has been cancelled, meaning you now have a two-hour lunch break. What do you do?

I would utilise the time to catch up on admin and networking.

Describe Swindon in three words...

Thriving; redeveloping and caring.

What are your plans for the future?

To create 3 Newbridge Street (formally Tri-centre 3) as a central business hub.
