With National Apprenticeship week nearly here, we've been chatting to some of BMW's young apprentices all about the scheme and how it works for them.

Why did you choose an Apprenticeship over university?

I wanted to get straight into work so thought an apprenticeship would be the best way to work, study and get paid.

How did you decide which Apprenticeship to do?

I always knew I wanted to work for a big company like BMW as have always had a passion in engineering and cars.

What are the benefits of doing an Apprenticeship?

I am always learning new things every day and very lucky that I get paid to be at college.

What are you doing to develop within your role and company?

I am developing my knowledge and practical skills.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

I now have a better understanding in Maths as I found this a difficult subject. I also feel more comfortable in using the machinery.

How do you spend your free time?

I like to spend time with my friend and girlfriend and enjoy going to the cinema.

What’s the hardest part about doing an Apprenticeship?

I feel there is a huge amount of pressure and work load to do.

What has doing an Apprenticeship meant for you as a person?

(Grown confidence, developed specific skills, made new friends etc). I am very motivated to get my qualification, also I have made a great circle of friends.

What advice would you give someone making the decision to go to university or to do an Apprenticeship? Think about what an apprenticeship is and what it involves and what sort of career you want.

What’s the one thing you will take away from your apprenticeship once it’s over?

I will have my qualification and hopefully a job and future career.
