TGt Meets IWD Special…Kellie of Responsive Personnel

In celebration of International Women's Day we heard from Kellie, a business executive at Responsive Personnel.

Tell us a bit about yourself …

I'm Kellie, a dedicated business executive taking my first steps into the world of recruitment. With over a decade of experience in the motor trade industry, I have decided to embark on a new career path that aligns with my passion for connecting people with opportunities. Outside of work, I cherish spending time with my friends and family, especially my energetic 5-year-old son who keeps me on my toes with his love for superheroes and football.

Tell us about your business.

I'm thrilled to be a part of the team at Responsive Personnel, a dynamic recruitment agency owned by Danny and managed by Dom. Our office is always buzzing with energy, thanks to our fun team and the lively banter that fills our days. Normally debating lunch orders, the camaraderie within our team makes the days fly by.

What do you love most about your job?

  • Building Relationships: In my previous role in the motor trade industry, I developed strong interpersonal skills. As a business executive in recruitment, I can build relationships with candidates and clients, understanding their needs and matching them effectively.
  • Problem-Solving: Recruitment involves solving complex challenges, such as finding the right candidate for a specific job or helping a candidate navigate their career path. I’ve always enjoyed problem-solving, and this is a key part of my job role.
  • Variety and Fast-Paced Environment: Recruitment is known for its fast-paced and dynamic nature. Every day brings new tasks, challenges, and opportunities, keeping myself engaged and constantly learning.
  • Helping Others: I enjoy making a positive impact on people's lives, I find satisfaction in being part of a process that helps individuals find meaningful careers and businesses find valuable talent.

What Is your proudest achievement?

One of my proudest achievements was earning a 2.1 in performing arts during my university studies. It was a challenging yet rewarding journey that highlighted my dedication and hard work in pursuing my passion for the arts. Additionally, my son stands as my greatest achievement, filling me with immense pride and joy. Seeing him grow and thrive brings me endless happiness and fulfilment.

This year’s IWD theme is ‘Inspire Inclusion’ – what does this mean to you?

I feel Inspiring inclusion means creating a welcoming and diverse environment where everyone feels valued and respected. It's about a culture that celebrates unique perspectives and encourages collaboration. It’s an integral part of a business where everyone needs to feel their opinion matters and is heard.

What are the biggest challenges you have faced in your career?

Transitioning from remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic to stepping away from an established career in the motor trade industry to venture into recruitment presented significant challenges in my professional journey. Adapting from the comfort and flexibility of remote work to the structured routine of a new industry required a shift in mindset and the acquisition of new skills and knowledge.

How do you balance your business and personal life?

Balancing my work life and personal life is crucial for my mental well-being. I prioritize tasks, try and set boundaries, schedule quality family time, practice self-care, and communicate openly when needed.

Which women inspire you the most?

The women who inspire me the most are my friends and, especially, my mother. They possess a multitude of talents, strengths, and weaknesses that inspire me daily. My friends are my pillars of support, always encouraging me to reach for my goals and providing unwavering companionship. Their perseverance, kindness, and unique talents motivate me to push beyond my limits and strive for excellence.

Above all, my mum stands as the epitome of strength and resilience. Her unwavering love, dedication, and sacrifices have shaped me into the person I am today. Despite facing her own challenges and vulnerabilities, her ability to overcome obstacles with grace and determination inspires me to face my own adversities with courage and perseverance. Her unconditional love and endless wisdom continue to guide me on my journey, serving as a constant source of inspiration in both my personal and professional life.
