TGt Meets...Nicola Plumb from Barnes Coaches - IWD Special

International Women's Day is on Friday 8th March. In celebration of this, we met Nicola Plumb, the Social Marketing, Graphic Design & Administrator at Barnes Coaches.

Tell us a bit about yourself …

I’m Nicola, I work at Barnes Coaches. You’ll find me behind-the-scenes and rarely seen! I mainly look after our social media, marketing and advertising.

Tell us about your business.

Barnes Coaches are the largest coach operator in the Swindon, Wiltshire area and specialise in UK & European coach holidays, day trips, theatre shows and private hire. As a company we have more than 100 years + experience in travel industry, starting out in 1920 with a mere 2 carts and 6 horses! We now have over 40+ vehicles in the fleet. 

What do you love most about your job?

Being able to use my creative side every day, I love the design aspects of my work designing all our printed publications, plus scrolling through social media all day is always a perk! (Strictly for work purposes of course…)

What is your proudest achievement?

Starting out several years ago at Barnes as an apprentice, I feel I have adapted and gained a lot of knowledge and confidence in my field of work.

This year’s IWD theme is ‘Inspire Inclusion’ – what does this mean to you?

Be the role model you would want to see for yourself, and you may inspire someone else or the next generation to follow suit.

What are the biggest challenges you have faced in your career?

Learning how to use design softwares to produce our printed publications. Designing my first holiday brochure from start to finish was a big milestone!

How do you balance your business and personal life?

There’s always a very fine line, isn’t there!? Sometimes during busy spells, it can overlap.

It’s always important to find time for yourself and find joy in your hobbies and seeing family and friends.

Which women inspire you the most?

The ladies I work with, my friends and family.
