Tell us about yourself Sara

I’m a marketing strategist with a hands-on approach to the whole marketing mix, from CRM to campaigns and content to lead generation, social media, website management, email, automation and everything in between.

My career began over 20 years ago, working across a range of B2B and B2C marketing campaigns and events over a broad spectrum of industries including tech, automotive, recruitment, FMCG, events, festivals and lots more.

In 2019 I set up Evil Empire – an agency based on the principles of a friendly, honest and high-quality approach to marketing. Our aim is to act as your in-house marketing department getting involved in all areas of the business to raise your profile and keep flying the flag for your business.

Tell us about Evil Empire Marketing

Evil Empire provides a comprehensive range of marketing services to our brilliant clients across the country, from Bournemouth to Glasgow and everywhere in between. We’ve been growing year on year and in 2023 we’ve brought on-board a host of new clients, (and a brilliant team!) who are helping them to develop effective marketing strategies to boost their profile and engage with their audiences.

Our team is relatively small but we offer a diverse skillset in-house, from videography and photography to copywriting and graphic design. We’re efficient, experienced, creative and reliable –that sums us up really!

What are some of the services that you offer?

We pride ourselves on being able to handle a wide range of requests from our clients in-house. This helps to improve turnaround time and ultimately keeps costs down.

In this day and age content is key, so we’re often writing blogs, designing social media posts, creating videos and building newsletters, cases studies and emails. We’re proficient across a range of platforms and keep ourselves up to date with the latest tech.

Our team has a strong background in graphic design, media relations, copywriting, strategy, photography, videography, social media and content management.

For me personally, strategy is my favoured area, I will always ask why and question what a company does with its marketing currently and how it could be executed more effectively.

What has been your business highlight of 2023?

We’ve gone through an exciting period of growth this year with new clients coming on board and a bigger team as we continue to grow the Empire.

It’s really been an important 12 months as many businesses have scaled back on their marketing budgets. We’re continuing to see steady growth though which is really encouraging and testament to the hard work of our team and the brilliant clients we work with.

Any exciting business news to share for 2024?

There’s some work going on behind the scenes at the moment in terms of a brand refresh and a flashy new website. We’re really looking forward to sharing it with everyone soon.

Aside from that we’re working on a whole host of exciting campaigns for our clients, and we’ll be continuing to support The Platform Project in Swindon with their marketing. The important work they do with disadvantaged young people in the region is second to none and we want to make sure everyone knows who they are, what they do and how they can get involved.

When you’re not busy working, what do you love doing in your time off in Swindon?

I love spending time with my husband and children. My daughter is in Bristol so we sometimes head there at the weekends but my younger ones are very much into the outdoors. We can mostly be found stomping around Stanton, Coate Water or Lydiard Park or visiting the Richard Jefferies Museum and Lotmead when they are open or have events on.

We also spend an awful lot of time at Blunsdon House Hotel in the pool and the park. It’s a home from home for me as we got married there 12 years ago and we’re members at the gym so it’s very much a part of our family.

Tell us about your favourite restaurant in Swindon?

I think it has to be Los Gatos, it’s always my go-to for the most delicious tapas I’ve had outside of Spain! It never fails to deliver and is always consistent with excellent food and service. From lunch and dinner to churros and hot chocolate on a Saturday, my whole family loves it there.
