TGtS Meets...Eloise Primus - International Women's Day Special
Eloise Primus has managed to succeed where many other women haven't...the construction industry. The National Self Build and Renovation Centre's Conference Manager chatted to us about juggling family life and why it's no longer a man's world.
Which woman would you compare yourself to?
I would say my mother; she's a hard worker but also sees the lighter side of life, which I feel is important.
What would you say is your most valuable skill and why?
Being able to effectively communicate as well as being organised - which is crucial in my role.
Why do you think it's important to have an International Women's Day?
I think it's really important to recognize the contribution women make in our society.
Do you have family (and/or children)? How do you maintain a work/life balance?
I have two children and although it's quite difficult to maintain the work/life balance, I also feel it's important to show your children the value of hard work. I'm proof that it's possible to have a career as well as a great home life.
Have you ever had to give up or miss out on anything in order to pursue your career?
No I can’t say that I have, I have been lucky in the sense that I have worked my way up. I have however moved to full time hours which can be a sacrifice in itself when you have children.
Do you ever experience any discrimination in the work place because of your gender?
I work in the construction industry which is very much a male dominated field. I've found however that this balance is adjusting and women are playing a very vital role which is being recognised more and more.
Based on your own experiences, what advice would you give to fellow females looking to get into your profession?
I would say persistence and hard work is the key! Being highly organised and willing to go that extra mile.
Do men ever feel intimidated by your success?
I can’t say that, that has ever been the case.
If you could have dinner with 5 inspirational women dead or alive, who would they be?
-
Princess Diana
-
Karen Brady
-
JK Rowling
-
Jane Austen
-
Coco Chanel
As a successful female, where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
Being successful within my role and really establishing myself.
