Your Total Guide To Business

Bowman House (Business Sponsor)

My Back To Business Strategy

By Tim Thurston, is director of Team-i - a company specialising in teamwork and leadership development, taking the key elements from successful sporting teams and applying them to business. He's also part of Team Doctor – providing expert content to help educate and inform on how to have happy, healthy employees. Tim is also one of the presenters of business news and views on Swindon 105.5.

Summarise how Covid-19 has affected you?

Many clients have had their business seriously disrupted and so have delayed investment in training and development this has, in turn, affected me in my own business.

What has been your plan to continue?

I have supported businesses in my network, both clients and others, building up goodwill and helping them with advice.

We have made our Team Doctor films available free of charge during this difficult period to help businesses support their employees.

How have things changed over the last few months?

I have delivered content via webinars and zoom meetings that have replaced face to face meetings. Something that may continue. I've also used those resources to interview people for my ongoing community radio show on business matters.

I have maintained contact with all clients and have tried to maintain my profile by posting useful content on social media platforms.

What has been the most challenging aspect of all of this?

The postponing of scheduled business and the delaying of decisions. All quite understandable of course.

What has been the most positive aspect?

Being able to work on business strategy and improve meeting and communication efficiency by better use of technology.

Has it made you consider how you feel about other businesses/suppliers/customers/clients for good or otherwise?

I am very empathetic to the situations of many businesses and feel for those who may not be able to get back to the way they were before this dreadful period.

How important is this phrase to you – ‘buy local, supply local’?

Very, I think we should champion and support out local community and if nothing else this lockdown has really brought home how we can improve our carbon footprint!

What are your top tips at this time?

1. Take a step back and re-set your strategy, try to assess what your market will need when lockdown is over and try to ensure you can deliver that.

2. Look at how you can improve your business’s efficiency by use of technology.

3. Maintain and build your network.

Do you have a particular service, product or special offer you'd like to share?

Team Doctor’s films will provide some excellent ideas to keep you and your teams in the a good place. www.teamdoctor.org
