Celebrate International Women’s Day in Swindon with Free NHS Health Checks

Swindon is all set to celebrate International Women’s Day with a host of free attractions and activities for all.

The festivities on Saturday 7th March include free NHS Health Checks and performances of music and poetry at the Central Library, in Regent Circus. A creative journaling session, talks and discussions on the theme of equality, advice on setting up a business and displays from community groups are also planned as part of the events programme which runs from 10am until 4pm.

Adding to the action, there will be a pop-up café and free artistic workshops at the Artsite and Number Nine Gallery, in Theatre Square.

NHS Health Checks will be available for men and women aged 40 to 74 who have not been diagnosed with conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease, high cholesterol, stroke and diabetes.

Michelle, aged 51, from West Swindon, recently took up her invite for a check and was glad she did.

“I would highly recommend it to anybody. In my case, I knew I was overweight and wanted to do something about it. Due to various ailments, which significantly reduced my activity levels, the pounds had been gradually creeping on,” Michelle said.

“This proved the perfect prompt to address my diet and manage my calorie intake. The nurse put me at ease with her friendly manner and was exceptionally helpful. I’m sticking to the plan and the weight is coming off, so I’m absolutely delighted.”

To book your free personal health check appointment on 7th March, or if you’re not available on this date you can still take advantage of this opportunity at an alternative time, please call Seqol on: (01793) 465543. More information is available online at www.swindon.gov.uk/healthcheck

Cllr Keith Williams, Swindon Borough Council Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, said: “I’m delighted that Swindon plans to celebrate International Women’s Day with such a diverse range of activities. There really is something of interest to all and I encourage everyone to pop along and join in the festivities. Whether you want to embrace your creative side, take up the free health MOT or browse the community stalls, it promises to be a great day.”
