13 NEW COLLEGE STUDENTS LAND PLACES ON ACCESS TO BRISTOL PROGRAMME

Access to Bristol is a mentoring programme, which is available to students on the New College High Flyers’ programme. This is open to all students based upon academic achievement of 6 or more grade 7 and above at GCSE.

The programme incorporates a mixture of academic skills and has a particular focus on Higher Education and Russell Group universities. This term, students looked at higher order Maths skills and how to make evidence based judgements linked to debating skills. 

13 New College students have been accepted on the Bristol programme this year. Learners take on a pathway such as, Medicine or Geography and attend the university once a week for a term to take part in opportunities for discussion and higher level learning, in preparation for university study and also to help them with their A Level subjects.

“I am so pleased that so many of our students have been accepted on the scheme as New College continues to forge close links with the Russell Group universities to further support our learners. The students were so pleased to start the programme. Our successful High Flyers' programme continues to stretch and challenge our ablest students to help them maximise their potential and we are looking forward to working with the University of Reading and the University of Oxford next term. Lots of our High Flyers' are also taking up the opportunity to start or continue their Duke of Edinburgh awards at college. With more High Flying students than ever, our programme continues to expand.”

Student, Holly Elkins said: “I’m excited as this is a completely new experience! The visit to Bristol University will be my first trip with the College. Not only will I receive more understanding about my favourite subject but it’s a great opportunity to get a feel for University.” 

Student, Aqsa Qayyum added: “This programme will give me a better opportunity to get into University. I am excited to see what it’s like when we visit!”
