FREE Parking on Sundays in Swindon Town Centre Starting This Week

Whether it’s for shopping or leisure, Swindon town centre has something for everyone, and from Sunday 7th April visitors to the town centre will be able to relax and enjoy their visit with free Sunday parking in all town centre car parks.

As a voice of the town centre retailers, inSwindon BID and shopping centre partners, The Brunel, Regent Circus and The Parade, have worked with Swindon Borough Council over the last few months to consider options for parking concessions in a bid to support retailers on a Sunday. Footfall on a Sunday is lower than the rest of the week, and it’s thought that by offering free Sunday parking in all town centre car parks, it will encourage longer stays and more visitors into the town centre.

Di Powell, inSwindon BID Chief Executive had this to say on the initiative, “We’re really excited to see free parking on Sundays starting this week. It is a step in the right direction to boosting footfall on the high street and will make us more competitive against the local retail parks and neighbouring shopping destinations.

People generally have more leisure time on a Sunday and with the recent relaunch of the Swindon Loyalty Club, the fantastic mix of high street and independent retailers it’s a great time for people to #ShopLocalSwindon and take advantage of the different shops, eateries and leisure facilities the town centre has to offer.”

Tanya Peters, Store Manager of Top Shop said, “This is great news for the town centre as it is something we have been struggling with for such a long time. This will definitely bring in more people as parking prices has been one of the biggest reasons for people not coming into town on a Sunday. It will bring us in line with other towns that offer this and with great success.

Free parking is available all day every Sunday and starts this Sunday 7th April. Come into town early and grab your breakfast before you start your shopping, then visit one of the many leisure outlets for an afternoon of post-retail therapy.
