Hairdressing Students Compete to be a Cut Above
Hairdressing students at Swindon College have been busy showcasing their creativity in a bid to be crowned ‘a cut above’, competing in a spectacular ‘avant-garde’-themed styling competition.
Designed to help develop their creative hairdressing skills, the competition saw both full-time and apprentice level 3 hairdressing students style a model of their choice head to toe – with many enlisting the help of the college’s media make-up students to help them complete their chosen look.
The judging panel (made up of several hairdressing tutors) were looking for passion, flair and creativity - and were impressed with the standard of the entries.
‘’The standard this year was extremely high’ said Janine Donegan, Lecturer in Hairdressing. ‘’The students all worked extremely hard and I am very proud of them.’’
The results for full time students saw 1st place awarded to Carol Rutland who incorporated tumbling autumnal leaves and butterflies into her look, with 2nd place going to Liz Hale, and 3rd place to April Palfry.
1st place for the hairdressing apprentices went to Hollie Chapman, with Leigh-Ann Sheldon awarded 2nd place, and Amy Ferris 3rd.
‘’Everyone really looks forward to the styling competition’’ says full time level 3 student Liz Hale. ‘’It’s a chance to take everything we’ve learnt to date and really showcase what we can do. We receive lots of support and inspiration from the tutors and I’m really proud of what each of us has achieved. The models all looked great!’’
