The 2019 High Flyers’ cohort achieved excellent results, with 22% of all A-level entries at A*, 52% at A*-A and 82% at A*-B, a rate comparable to some of the top schools in the country. Past students are now studying at top Russell Group universities including Oxford, UCL, Warwick, Birmingham, Bristol and Exeter, with subjects including Medicine, Engineering and Veterinary Science.
Additional support is available throughout the university application process, to those on the programme. Sessions are delivered by university representatives and there is also a dedicated Oxbridge Co-ordinator, who provides guidance on the application process, including admissions tests and interviews.
To support students with the costs involved in taking extra courses, New College also offers a limited number of High Flyers’ Scholarships to help with the purchase of books and equipment. These are worth up to £150, and are available to all those whose predicted grades meet the programme requirements.
New College will be welcoming high-achieving students on Wednesday 25th September 6.15-7.30pm, to find out more about the programme. School-leavers predicted six or more grade A/7s at GCSE will have the opportunity to learn more about the programme, which aims to support the most talented local students. Not only are they able to choose from the 140+ courses offered at the college, including 38 A-level subjects, but they can also take advantage of a range of unique opportunities. These include specialist one-to-one tutor support and the ability to fast-track courses such as the Extended Project Qualification.
Lily Starling, a High Flyer from the 2019 cohort, achieved A*A*A and is going on to study Medicine at Exeter. She said:
“I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone at New College for supporting me through this A-level journey and through all the hard work I’ve put in over the last two years. My experience has been amazing and has given me the independence to feel confident going to university next year. I’m so excited for the next part of my life!”
