New College Sent Record Number of Students on to Degree Level Courses
This year New College Swindon has achieved a new record by sending 602 learners on to Higher Education at degree level.
Following on from this year’s results, 18% of New College students have gone on to a Russell Group Institution compared to the 12% last year. Some of these institutions include Oxford, Bristol, UCL, Southampton and Cardiff. One student also received a place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
35 students have progressed on to degree level courses at New College, with courses ranging from Art and Design to Business and Enterprise.
Many students have gone on to university to study: Nursing and Midwifery, Engineering, Computing, Business, Law, Music, History, Medicine and Sociology.
Former New College student Claire Sims is studying History and Politics at the University of Oxford. She achieved four A grades in Economics, English Literature, Government and Politics and History. She said: “My teachers made all of my subjects understandable and enjoyable; the high quality of teaching meant that I looked forward to coming to college and learning about a vast variety of new subjects. New College had every course that I wanted to do alongside with a few extras, such as the fast-track EPQ or General Studies courses."
Following A Level results day in August this year, five New College students went on to study Medicine at university.
Former student Dawid Akala, achieved an A* and two A grades in his A Levels this year. He’s now studying Medicine at University College London. He said: “I enjoy science and love working with people and Medicine is a combination of those two things. After graduating I hope to spend some time travelling as a doctor. I liked New College as an open, comfortable learning environment - it definitely develops your independent study and time management skills in a greater way than school. At the same time teachers are highly supportive and approachable, taking genuine interest in your progress.”
