New College Swindon To Take Part In Articulation Prize 2019

The national public speaking competition, ARTiculation, is set to take place next month and New College Swindon are one of the few schools taking part. The competition promotes and supports young people to look, think and speak about art. The Southwest Regional Final will take place at Spike Island on Monday 25th February 2019, 2-5pm.

New College is the only non-fee paying school in this heat of the competition, other schools taking part are cheltenham Ladies' College, Colston's School, Downside School, Redmaids' High School, St.Mary's School Calne.

Robert Leckie, Director, Spike Island will adjudicate this Regional Final, which will see students aged between 16-19 delivering ten minute-presentations about a work of art, architecture or an artefact of their choice in front of an audience. 

Over 1,000 students enter The ARTiculation Prize in England every year and this year's Regional Finals will take place at an array of England's top museums and galleries including:

The BALTIC, The Whitworth, The Sainsbury Centre for visual Arts, Folkestone Quarterhouse, Plymouth College of Art, The Ashmolean Museum, New Art Centre, Spike Island and The National Gallery.

Successful students at Regional Finals will be invited to present at the Grand Final. Robert Leckie will select one student to go through to the Grand Final at Clare College, University of Cambridge on 1 March 2019. The Grand Final will be adjudicated by Dr. Tristram Hunt, Director, V & A Museum.

Russell Maggs teaches Art and History of Art at New College Swindon, he said: "We are all really excited to once again have a representative in the regional final! This competition gives our learners the expereince to speak about a History of Art topic of their choice in a public environment."
