New College to Hold Lit Fest
Literature loving students at New College will be meeting a number of successful novelists and industry professionals as part of the New College Lit Fest on Tuesday 17th November.
Students will have the chance to meet a number of talented professionals through workshops and talks by Mimi Thebo, Jasper Fforde, Stefan Mohammed, Harry Partridge, Gilly Macmillan and Nicola Davies.
Mimi Thebo specialises in writing for children, adults and young adults. Her novel for children, Wipe Out, was adapted for a Bafta-winning film by the BBC.
Jasper Fforde has written seven books so far and Stefan Mohammed won the unpublished writer’s category of the Dylan Thomas Prize for his novel Bitter Sixteen. The novel was then published earlier this year.
Originally from Wiltshire, Gilly Macmillan had her first novel Burnt Paper Sky published in August this year. Nicola Davies is a children’s author, and was also one of the original presenters of the BBC children’s wildlife programme ‘The Really Wild Show’. Harry Partridge is a British independent short-format web animator and voice actor who has authored several short animations.
Stephen Tuffin and Rhian Jacob-Crankshaw, Creative Writing course leaders at New College said: “The Creative Writing Team are excited to invite 6 industry professionals including several highly successful novelists, a dynamic performance poet and a talented animator to the College. The guests will be speaking to a number of students from the College including those on our innovative A Level Creative Writing course. We hope to provide our students with a valuable insight into the creative industries.”
As part of the Literature Festival, Year 10 and 11 school pupils will be given the chance to win Amazon vouchers by entering the ‘Write On’ competition. There will also be a separate version of the competition available to New College students with prizes up for grabs. Entries must be received by Friday October 30th 2015.
