Swindon And Cricklade Railway Need Your Help To Get Back To Cricklade
Swindon and Cricklade Railway have launched their big appeal to get themselves back to Cricklade but the team needs the help of the local public to get the wheels moving.
Currently situated at Blunsdon Station near Tadpole Lane, The Swindon and Cricklade Railway is Wiltshire’s only Standard Gauge Heritage Railway with visitors able to experience trips out on some of our country’s greatest ever steam trains.
But now the team at the Swindon locomotive company wants to get their trains back to Cricklade as they set about reinstating the railway line to Cricklade on the original railway formation.
Setting about the monumental challenge, the S&CR are seeking donations for the project with the team looking for charitable donations to help them reach their projected goal of £100,000. Donations can be made to their “Big Give” page here.
For the initial phase 1 of the return to Cricklade, the team will need to lay 600 yards of track all the way up to Farfield Lane. The trackbed and embankments will need to be recovered and refurbished with around 2,800 tonnes of ballast required to complete the monumental movement.
Swindon and Cricklade Railway are also offering a fantastic one-off opportunity for local businesses to get involved with the historical renovation project by becoming a sponsor which will help the team complete the big move.
