Swindon College celebrated the outstanding achievements of its apprentices and their employers at the annual ‘Apprenticeship Awards’ ceremony last week – as 19 students received prizes in recognition of their hard work and determination.
The coveted title of ‘Apprentice of the Year’ was awarded to individuals across the college’s extensive apprenticeship programme areas - including accounting, business administration, brickwork, carpentry, motor vehicle and hairdressing.
The evening was a great success, with Mayor Cllr Eric Shaw, Justin Tomlinson MP and Governors among the 120+ guests; who, alongside parents, tutors and employers were all touched by the inspirational testimonials of success, commitment and outstanding achievement.
Amongst the winners on the night was Business Administration Apprentice of the Year, Charly Hubbard. Charly’s employer Donna Redshaw from Diamond PA Services Ltd presented her with the award:
‘’Charly is such a hardworking and conscientious member of our team, and this shines through with her college work also’’ said Donna.
‘’Often when we are working she will pull evidence out to show her tutor and she is constantly looking for improvements, both at college and in the office. I am truly honoured to have Charly as a member of Diamond PA Services and I am so proud to present her with the Award for Business Administration Apprentice of the Year 2016.’’
Engineering Apprentice of the Year Eamonn Hackett also impressed his employers, with Mike Harvey from EMCOR saying ‘’ Eamonn demonstrates a clear commitment to the training and his job, which is reflected in his level of workmanship and the way he fits in at the work place and at college. He will be an asset to EMCOR and will set very high standards for others to follow as he progresses through his career.’’
And having been encouraged by his employer DW Dunn Ltd to undertake an apprenticeship, Daniel Ricketts, 26 was celebrating becoming Plumbing Level 2 Apprentice of the Year.
“I had to fit my apprenticeship at Swindon College and my work in with my family life – I am a dad to two girls‘’ said Daniel.
‘’But I got it done, and it was manageable. I am now going to be doing my Level 3 at the college!”
