Swindon Travel Choices Roadshow Rolls Into Town
Commuters in Swindon are being invited to come along to the town’s first “travel choices roadshow”, which will include displays and information on a wide range of transport options.
First Great Western, Sustrans and Swindon Travel Choices have organised the roadshow, which will take place on the forecourt of Swindon’s railway station on Tuesday 24th September 2013 between 4pm and 6.30pm.
It will be a great opportunity for rail commuters in particular to look at alternatives to single occupancy car journeys to and from the station. The event is also part of Travel Choices month – a wider programme of events which aims to promote buses, trains, car sharing, taxis, car clubs, electric vehicles, scooters, as well as walking and cycling.
The stalls and displays will have a wealth of information and giveaways to help people get around Swindon using a variety of ways. A recent survey at Swindon’s railway station revealed that over 98% of respondents would be happy to consider a different way of travelling than their “usual mode”, but often lack the information to help them do so.
“The roadshow is just one of many events to help promote different travel choices,” says Claire Fleming from Swindon Travel Choices. “We have spent a lot of time over the warmer months promoting walking and cycling, but it’s just as important to help people understand the different schemes that are available if you want to use public transport, car schemes or electric vehicles.”
