UTC Swindon Confirms Open Evening and Careers Day

Prospective students and their parents are invited to attend UTC Swindon’s open day and careers evening to find out exactly what the college has to offer.

UTC is holding an open evening from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm on Wednesday 21 October and a careers day on Wednesday 11 November. The careers day will be open to the public from 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm. Both events will take place at UTC Swindon’s Bristol Street site.

The open evening on 21 October is an opportunity to see the cutting edge learning facilities at UTC Swindon and get a feel for college life and the courses on offer. Visitors can take a guided tour around the £10 million state-of-the-art building. They’ll see light-filled workshops and classrooms that reflect the workplace, the college’s lecture theatre and a hub area where students can generate ideas, socialise and inspire others.

At the careers evening on 11 November, potential UTC Swindon students are invited to come along and discuss the wide range of apprenticeships and career opportunities with experts in the engineering sectors. As well as industry leaders and representatives from local schools colleges and universities, many major employers will be taking part. These include:

  • SSE - the provider of gas, electricity, phone and broadband
  • BMW - the German luxury car, motorcycle and engine manufacturer
  • Honda - the Japanese manufacturers of automobiles, motorcycles and power equipment 
  • Siemens – the largest engineering company in Europe, with divisions in industry, energy, healthcare, and infrastructure & cities
  • Network Rail – the owner and infrastructure manager of most of the rail network in England, Scotland and Wales
  • Dialog Semiconductors – the leading semiconductor supplier of mixed signal power saving technologies
  • Hochtief UK Construction - one of the largest construction groups worldwide, delivering complex infrastructure projects across the globe

Our open evening will offer a valuable insight into what UTC Swindon is all about. By inviting prospective students and parents into the building gives us a wonderful opportunity to present our unique learning experience.”   

Open since September 2014, UTC Swindon caters for 600 students aged 14 to 19, providing courses for young people who aspire to a career in engineering, computing and business, students can study a good range of GCSE’s and A levels alongside specialist BTEC qualifications. Students at the college gain skills demanded in all sectors of the engineering and computing industries.

As part of the original Great Western Rail works, the UTC Swindon site creates a link between the engineering history and the engineering and computing future of the local area, with the Old School Building and the iconic Water Tower featuring prominently. Both structures, which are Grade II listed, were treated sympathetically, with the Water Tower being restored and brought back into educational use.

UTC Swindon is run by a trust sponsored by Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells and Oxford Brookes University. There are over 90 different industry partners involved with the University Technical College.
