David Flitcroft's players will know "what it means to play for Swindon Town"

David Flitcroft wants his Swindon players to have a strong work ethic and understand what it is like to play for Swindon Town.

Flitcroft will get the chance to build Swindon Town in his own image this summer, as the club only have 10 definitely contracted players come July 1.

The Robins were relegated to League Two last season and will be aiming to go straight back up to League One again next season.

No new players have arrived at Swindon yet, but Flitcroft is well aware of the type of player he wants at the County Ground and has put recruitment as his top priority at the moment.

"We'll be patient with it. We've got to get the right ones.

"What we have got here is a core of young players, dynamic players that have understood the way to play football a certain way.

"What I've got to do with that group of players is make them see the other side of the game - the beauty of the other side of the game and teach them my methods and my methodology and my values.

"That's why we'll be methodical with the recruitment, we'll speak to the right people.

"(My methodology) is quite simple. It's been built off of hard work, sincerity and honesty and there's two sides to football - in possession and out of possession.

"I love a team that's expressive, I love a team that can attack teams and play fast-flowing football but I honestly, truly understand the word: 'structure' and 'substance'. That's been a massive part of my life, and my work ethic and where I've come from and my background.

"I'll be teaching these players more than football, I'll teach them about life and we all achieve together.

"I wasn't a fantastic player, I valued a team and a team ethic and these players will understand what they've got to value. They've got to value the team and what it means to put on a Swindon shirt and what it means to play for Swindon Town."
