REVIEW: Barrel & Stone Pizza at Leonardo Hotel Swindon
This week we were kindly invited to Leonardo Hotel Swindon Bar & Restaurant located on Fleming Way, to try their brand-new pizza menu by Barrel and Stone and it did not disappoint. Barrel and Stone pizzas are delicious artisan bases made using premium re-milled durum semolina that are hand stretched and then stone baked, so they have that authentic Italian taste.
We were greeted by friendly and helpful staff who showed us to the restaurant and let us choose where we could sit. It has a lovely modern clean feel in the Restaurant and Bar, with a nice mix of hard and soft chairs to sit on and the artwork on the walls are a modern blend of art/photography of Swindon landmarks or heritage sites, which we thought added a cool cultural nod to the town.
The menu had a good selection of 12’’ Stone Baked Pizzas to choose from, and they all have (except the BBQ) an oregano infused tomato base which gives it a deeper flavour just like an Italian pizza should. The drinks menu was great too, with a good selection of beers, wine, cocktails and non-alcoholic too, we decided on a classic Pepsi on ice and a Whitely Neill G&T.
For the pizzas we went with a classic Margherita, which was cheesy perfection with just the perfect amount of creamy Fior di Latte Mozzarella and made a very fussy ten year old exclaim ‘’ this is the best I’ve ever had” and a Garden Club pizza which also had the Fior di Latte Mozzarella but topped with fresh veg such as balsamic glazed onions, globe artichoke hearts, Peppadew peppers, olives and peppery rocket so it had a little kick to the flavours too.
Both pizzas were served at the same time, which was really great service, so we were able to demolish them both almost at the same time too and were just as you would expect from Barrel and Stone Pizzas so we were very satisfied with our meal. The staff were so lovely and attentive the entire time and made sure our drinks were topped up too.
Leonardo's is located in such a handy spot in Swindon, so it is easily accessible to pop by for a meal even if you aren’t a guest in the hotel. Sadly we didn’t get to try the Sweet Pizza menu this time, but it sounds absolutely delicious so we will definitely be going back in the near future.
