REVIEW: DoubleTree by Hilton Afternoon Tea Swindon

REVIEW: Traditional Afternoon Tea at DoubleTree by Hilton, Swindon

One of our most popular, best-loved traditions here in Britain is the Traditional Afternoon Tea, and when we were invited along to DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Swindon to try theirs, we simply couldn’t resist. So what did we think? Read on to find out…

On arrival to the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, we were warmly welcomed by reception and we were taken through to our table in the restaurant. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, and light and airy, making it the perfect space to enjoy an afternoon of fine dining with a loved one.

We were seated at a lovely table by the window and asked if we would like tea or coffee. We opted for this, however, you can upgrade to enjoy Prosecco with your afternoon tea for an extra £5. Our teas and coffees were swiftly brought out to us, and were lovely and fresh.

Shortly after, the main event was brought out to us. We were in awe at the incredible selection of delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones and a selection of fluffy cakes and macaroons which were all presented beautifully.

We started with the bottom layer, which consisted of a range of sandwiches: Coronation Chicken, Smoked Salmon, Egg Mayonnaise and Cream Cheese & Cucumber.

My personal favourite was the Coronation Chicken, which was bursting with flavours and so generously filled. The smoked salmon was also a real treat, cooked to perfection and sandwiched in between the most deliciously soft white bread. The cucumber was so complimenting to the cream cheese which melted perfectly in the mouth, and the egg mayonnaise tasted so fresh and flavoursome, a delight with every bite.

Once we’d demolished the sandwiches, we moved on to our additional savoury bites which was a tasty mini quiche and flaky pork sausage rolls, which went down a storm before we started on the sweet treats.

We were truly spoilt with the sweets, starting with two freshly baked fruit scones accompanied with a generous dollop of fresh strawberry jam and clotted cream (naughty, but so nice!). The fruit scones were delicious and soft, and the fruit gave it that extra flavouring which alongside the fruity jam and thick cream, made the perfect scone in my opinion! These were quickly eaten and we swiftly moved on to our final layer – the cakes.

Spoilt for choice and unsure where to start, I opted for the Red Velvet first as this one really stuck out to me. That first bite was supreme – the cake was fluffy, moist and paired with the buttercream icing on top, truly did melt in my mouth. The Victoria sponge cake was similarly delicious, and we finished off with the most mouth watering macaroons I’ve ever tasted. It’s safe to say that we were feeling very full and content by this point!

Our waiters were very attentive throughout, regularly checking that we were happy with our afternoon tea and whether we needed anything, which is always lovely. It’s clear to see that we thoroughly enjoyed our experience of a Traditional Afternoon Tea at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Swindon, and if you’re looking to treat a special someone for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, a birthday or any other special occasion, we’d highly recommend you book here.

The afternoon tea is also very well priced, coming in at £17.95pp or £22.95pp if you’d like to add Prosecco to the experience.
