1.) Jewel In The Crown
Jewel In The Crown is Swindon’s most popular Indian restaurant serving up an extravagant array of award-winning dishes. A luxurious venue with lavish Indian decorations makes you feel like you have stepped into Asia as you sit down to enjoy a five-star dining experience, with their exceptional service making each guest feel valued.
Operating both a dine-in and takeaway service, The Jewel In The Crown is one of the best curry houses we have ever visited and their reasonable prices mean it is a destination fit for every occasion whether you’re heading out with friends or wanting a more romantic meal for two.
Ambience: 5/5
Traditional Indian decor with no expense spared makes this Swindon’s most attractive Indian restaurant. Staff are dressed in formal Indian attire making your visit the complete cultural experience.
Value for money: 5/5
An astonishing menu with dishes from all over India will leave you constantly changing your mind as you wonder what curry to tuck into. Favourites such as chicken tikka masala start at £8.30 whilst chef special dishes will cost np more than £13.50. These prices combined with the top-quality dishes make the Jewel In The Crown exceptionally good value for money.
Taste: 5/5
This was the easiest element to grade as the food served up to us was incredibly flavoursome, delicious and by the far the best curry we have ever tasted. Each bite brought with it an explosion of flavour and the excellent chefs are a credit to this brilliant Swindon establishment, serving up amazing traditional dishes.
Address: 14-16 Victoria Road, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN1 3AL
2.) The Burj
Located in Foxhill on the outskirts of Swindon, The Burj is one of Wiltshire’s worst kept secrets with its authentic Indian food attracting diners from all over Wiltshire and beyond. With an exciting menu designed by award-winning chef Parimal Sarkar, the Burj’s home-style Indian cooking will tantalise your tastebuds and leave you coming back for more!
Ambience: 4/5
Formerly a public house, The Burj has brought the venue to life, combining with old with new. Their modern decor oozes class and quality, with guests treated to a refined and relaxed dining experience. It doesn’t create the traditional Indian atmosphere but is a pleasurable place to eat.
Value for money: 3.5/5
The Burj is slightly on the pricier side of what you would expect to pay with most curry dishes averaging out around £11.50 and a portion of rice starting at £3, however, you certainly pay for quality with the restaurant using the freshest ingredients to create delicious wholesome food.
Taste: 4.5/5
The Burj serves up some outstanding food, with their home-style cooking creating unique flavours that separate it from many traditional curry houses who aim to get food out quickly at the sacrifice of quality. Their chicken vindaloo is by far one of the best we have tasted with its fiery heat perfectly balanced with beautiful aromatic flavouring to make every mouthful a treat.
Address: Foxhill, Wanborough, Swindon SN4 0DR
3.) Ruchi
An Old Town favourite, Ruchi serves up excellent quality Indian food that Swindon curry lovers have been enjoying since 1990. Located on Victoria Road, Ruchi's is the ideal venue if you’re looking for quick and enjoyable Indian food without having to leave Old Town.
Ambience: 3/5
Ruchi has modern decor with a stylish bar that creates a lively and friendly atmosphere for diners to enjoy. Ruchi’s doesn’t offer the same traditional Indian dining experience that others on this list do, but it is certainly a welcoming and pleasurable environment.
Value for money: 4.5/5
Ruchi is excellent value for money with it offering the cheapest dishes out of all the establishments on this list. Traditional curry dishes work out at an average of £8 with naan bread starting at £2.90 and pilau rice costing just under £3 per portion.
If you’re wanting to treat the whole family to a delicious Indian this week without breaking the bank then Ruchi is the perfect destination.
Taste: 4/5
Brilliant traditional curry at a brilliant price makes Ruchi one of Swindon's best curry houses. They won the 2013 Swindon Advertiser curry awards so you know that you’re certain to be diving into delicious Indian food. However, it doesn’t surpass the quality of traditional Indian cuisine on offer at The Jewel In The Crown or The Burj.
Address: 89 Victoria Rd, Swindon SN1 3BD
5.) Lalbagh
Based on Rodbourne Road, this brilliant Indian restaurant encompasses a perfectly varied menu that boasts all of the traditional Indian dishes that you would expect to find whilst also showcasing some delightfully delicate and fragrant chef specialities.
Ambience: 2.5/5
If you’re after for a cheap and cheerful Indian experience then Lalbagh is a great choice. Their layout and design don’t create much of an authentic Indian experience with the brightly lit dining room failing to replicate the ambience demonstrated at other local restaurants. But it’s a clean and tidy restaurant with good social distancing measures in place.
Value for money: 3.5/5
Reflecting standard prices typical of many Indian restaurants, Lalbagh has a jam-packed menu with a great variety of dishes on offer. Good portion sizes and enjoyable food make it a great choice although you might expect a more cultured dining experience for the price you pay.
Taste: 4/5
Whilst this tucked-away curry house might not match other restaurants for its ambience and value for money, Lalbagh certainly makes up for it by serving mouth-wateringly good food that contains a selection of exciting Indian flavours.
Address: 171 Rodbourne Rd, Rodbourne, Swindon SN2 2AY
WINNER: Jewel In The Crown

Displaying excellence in every department, Jewel In The Crown is a brilliant venue for curry lovers across Wiltshire and is certainly a must-visit this week as we celebrate National Curry Week 2020.
