7 Emojis That Mean Something Completely Different To What You Think
July 17th marks World Emoji Day! We all love our emojis, but do we actually know what they all mean? Here are misconceptions with 7 different emojis - you might be surprised!
1. Disappointed but Relieved Face
Although many people perceive this emoji as an upset face, it's true meaning is 'disappointed but relieved'.
2. Person with Folded Hands
We know what you're all thinking...it's a person praying, right? Wrong! In Japan, a folded hand gesture is used to say 'please' and 'thank you'.
3. Face with Steam from Nose
Believe it or not, this emoji isn't to express anger. Although most people believe it is, it actually means 'expressing triumph after great frustration'.
4. Information Desk Person
This emoji is commonly used to express sassiness, flipping hair or sarcasm. However, it couldn't be more different! This is actually an information desk person, with her hand like that to express helpfulness.
5. Dizzy Symbol
Dizzy emoji?! Yes, that's right. We couldn't believe it either! Although this emoji looks like a shooting star, it's actually there to symbolise dizziness.
6. Open Hands Emoji
Although this looks very much like jazz hands, this emoji is technically supposed to be used to express openness, as if someone was inviting you to give them a hug.
7. See No Evil Monkey
Many people use this emoji as a cute way to express embarrassment in a funny way. However, this monkey is covering its eyes to "see no evil" as part of the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" proverb.
