Local Businesses Captured 'Working Beautifully'

For over a year, Digital artist Timothy Cumming and photographer Nigel Hudson have been painting, filming and photographing hundreds of companies in the Swindon area.

Through art and photography the duo set themselves the challenge of celebrating the beauty of enterprise in Swindon with a 70-metre-long tapestry featuring a photo and digital painting of staff working at local firms.

The project, inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry, will be exhibited at The Brunel from Monday May 20th to Sunday May 26th before being donated to Forward Swindon for permanent display the following week.

Focusing on Swindon's everyday working heroes the unique exhibition consists of over 700 works of art. The images take a glimpse behind the scenes of the some of the South West's largest and smallest firms.

Artist Timothy Cumming commented "My interests in this show primarily centre on individual in their environment - portraying that as faithfully and vividly as possible."

"Few of us stop to appreciate the amazing visual feast that is the workplace - its mess, colours and shadows, and the gestures and expressions of those working there."

The show is for 1 week only, and will feature a collection of framed, fabric and projected media.

Co-artist Nigel Hudson added "The challenge that I most enjoy is bringing together the visual story and creating a strong visual narrative. During the project I worked in a more artistic way, combining textures and details into my images to create a rich canvas that goes beyond photography."

"Some of the work-places that we shot are far removed from the corporate environments with which I am so familiar and they provide a whole range of new possibilities for print making."

Total Swindon has even been involved in this special undertaking! You can view our gallery here.

Cumming continued "We chose Total Swindon because of its tenacious performance over the recession - they've adapted beautifully"

"We've tried to convey the beauty of Total Swindon, its people and offices - the meeting couch, the professional interaction, the colours, light and textures. But we also observed the unique human approach they have there and a sense of their natural pride"
