Open Farm Sunday Returns to Lotmead
The UK’s best Pick Your Own, Lotmead Farm, off Wanborough Road, will again be taking part in Open Farm Sunday on 5 June and will be holding a range of activities perfect for all the family.
The nationwide event takes place across farms on the first Sunday of June throughout the country to give people an insight into farm life.
Lotmead Farm is a working dairy farm that has been producing milk for over 65 years. For the last 30 years families have also been able to enjoy the Pick Your Own, which was recently awarded the title of best in the UK by FARMA. Call the 24 hour answerphone on 01793 790137 to hear opening times and what's ripe for picking. Early and late season opening and closing may vary.
This Sunday between 11am and 4pm there will be tractor and trailer rides around the farm with informal talks on strawberries, the cows, calves and dairy farming and beekeeping.
There are almost 300 cows at Lotmead and with currently over 70 calves with more being born every day there will be plenty to see and hear about.
Visitors can continue their tour around the farm with a nature trail walk to the lake, have fun in the play areas or visit the small animal enclosure.
John Meaden, Lotmead manager, said: “We’ll be opening for the season on 5 June and taking part in the national Open Farm Sunday to give the people of Swindon a behind-the-scenes look into growing fruit and dairy farming.
“As long as the days between now and then stay warm and sunny there will also be strawberries to pick too. However, there may be a limited supply so if you want to pick some fruit I’d recommend getting here early.”
Early season opening times can vary, visitors should call the automated update line on 01793 790137 to find the latest times and produce available.
