REVIEW: Longleat Safari Park Icons Of The Sky

Our visit to Longleat Safari Park’s Icons of the Sky event on 14th September 2024 was nothing short of spectacular! The combination of unique aerial displays, fun on the ground, and incredible food made it an unforgettable experience that we’ll be talking about for a long time.

One of the event's main attractions was the hot air balloons, which were as impressive in person as you’d imagine. Although the wind was too strong for them to take flight, the organisers still ensured the experience was memorable by tethering the balloons, allowing us to get up close and admire their vibrant colours and massive scale. Watching these majestic balloons sway gently against the backdrop of Longleat's beautiful landscape felt magical and provided plenty of photo opportunities.

However, the true highlight of the day was the thrilling air show. The variety of aircraft on display was simply astonishing. We were treated to the sight of helicopters, the iconic Tiger Moths, and historic Spitfires soaring through the sky. The Spitfires, in particular, were a crowd favorite—watching these legendary planes fly overhead, accompanied by the deep rumble of their engines, was a mesmerising experience.

As the sun began to set, the event reached a spectacular crescendo with two pyrotechnic planes lighting up the sky. These aircraft performed synchronised aerial stunts while launching fireworks from their wings, creating a dazzling display that left us in awe. The combination of sparkling lights, booming fireworks, and precise aerobatics was just spectacular!

The food options were another highlight of the day. Longleat had a wide variety of food vans, and we couldn’t resist sampling some of the delicious offerings. We indulged in a footlong hotdog, perfectly paired with crispy chips, which was just what we needed after the excitement of the air show. For dessert, we opted for a decadent Oreo sundae ice cream—creamy, sweet, and the perfect treat to enjoy while soaking in the atmosphere of the event.

The entire day was wonderfully organised, with plenty of entertainment to keep us engaged from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, the event felt well-planned and accessible, with friendly staff ensuring everything ran smoothly. Longleat’s stunning grounds provided the perfect setting for such a diverse and exciting experience.

Whether you’re an aviation enthusiast or just looking for a fun, family-friendly day out, Icons of the Sky at Longleat Safari Park was an amazing experience that delivered on all fronts. The combination of historic aircraft, breathtaking aerial displays, delicious food, and Longleat’s iconic surroundings made for a truly unforgettable day. We can’t recommend it enough and are already looking forward to returning for future events!
