Snapped: Swindon Street Athletics 2014

On Saturday the 14th of June, Swindon’s Wharf Green was taken over by the latest Street Athletics event. Olympic legend Linford Christie was of course there to encourage the youngsters in his free youth engagement programme. The event had a great turn out with lots of budding athletes keen to get their sprint on. TGtS went along to show our support for this fantastic event:

The 2014 Swindon Street Athletics event saw young people tackle 60m sprints in four different age groups – U13s, U15s, U17s and U20s.

Street Athletics first came to Swindon over 5 years ago. It targets youngsters who are not engaged in mainstream sports and who can benefit from the confidence and motivation that comes from taking part in a positive community sports experience.

There were prizes available for those taking part and the top three male and females from each group will go on to compete against young people from 10 other cities in the Street Athletics national finals in Manchester on Saturday, 30 August.
